At just 38 years old, David Beckham is out! Finished with his soccer career that is. The athlete announced his retirement from the game early Thursday morning.
Of his retirement he stated, “I wouldn’t have achieved what I have done today without my family,” Beckham in a statement. “I’m grateful for my parents’ sacrifice, which made me realise my dreams.”
Michael Vick still has some harsh enemies out there. The Philadelphia Eagles quarterback can’t seem to shake his dog fighting pass. The same criminal activity he was charged with and served jail time for.
Vick, who recently cancelled a book tour over these threats, was getting harassed and threatened at several Barnes & Nobles he was to attend. But according to Vick he won’t be hiding. Find out more about Vick’s recent death threats when you head over to The Great Monkey Suit.

Congratulations to former NFL player Michael Strahan. He was just named as the new co-host of ABC’s ‘Live! with Kelly’. Strahan, whose a current football correspondent on ‘FOX NFL Sunday’, also makes history of the show’s first African American to host the show in its nearly 29 years on television.
The show’s host, Kelly Ripa, became a solo host when Regis Philbin retired in 2011. Philbin had been host of the show since it’s beginning until November 2011, in its 28th season.
Of the many co-hosts who sat alongside Ripa during the year long vacancy, ‘SNL’ writer Seth Meyers and singer Josh Groban were also named as top contenders for the gig.
A bit of information on the new host? Strahan played for the New York Giants six years before retiring in 2005. He’s also currently engaged to reality TV star Nicole Murphy ,who just happens to be actor Eddie Murphy’s ex-wife.
The new season of the show will begin September 4th.
Following her historic making gold medal wins as the first African American woman to win both the team and individual all around competition, sixteen year old gymnast Gabby Douglas has caught wind of all the criticism over her hair.
Critics caused a big commotion over her hair when they ridiculed her for adding gel and clips to hold-up a disheveled ponytail. On the matter Gabby says,
“I don’t know where this is coming from. What’s wrong with my hair? I’m like, “I just made history and people are focused on my hair?” It can be bald or short, it doesn’t matter about hair.”
Lebron James has finally earned the ring he’s longed for. And although he, along with team mates Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh have faced much criticism these last two years, they finally did it! They won the 2012 NBA Finals Championship!
The team beat out OKC, winning games 2 through 5 after Oklahoma’s win during Game 1.
After the win James stated, “It means everything. I made a difficult decision to leave Cleveland. But understood what my future was about. And understood that coming to Miami and we had a bright future. This is a dream come true for me. I’ve been through a lot in the past 2 years.”

After having the worst season in his basketball career, Lamar Odom has officially stepped away from the Dallas Mavericks.
In a statement released Monday Odom says, “I’m sorry that things didn’t work out better for both of us, but I wish the Mavs’ organization, my teammates and Dallas fans nothing but continued success in the defense of their championship.”
Although Odom will no longer play for the team he’ll have to wait until next season to be traded, however. For the moment he’ll be listed as “inactive” until a decision can be made at a later date.
Lamar’s basketball troubles began last December when his former team, the LA Lakers, had him up for grabs to be traded. Although the decision was later rescinded, Odom chose to leave anyway because he felt he was no longer viable to his team and teammates.
Maybe he should have swallowed his pride and didn’t abort ship, huh? Guess, we’ll all have to wait and see what transpires next season and if Odom will get to play at all.

Representatives for the owners and players of the National Basketball Players Association were able to reach, what they call, a “tentative” agreement early Saturday to end the 149-day old lockout. At risk of losing the entire season and lots of money, an agreement was reached to kick off the season on Christmas Day, Dec. 25.
The negotiation went on for a painstaking 15-hours before league representatives and players came together in a joint news conference around 3:30am to make the big announcement.

In a recent health scare, Serena Williams was rushed to a hospital and treated for pulmonary embolism (blood in the lungs) early Monday morning. However, on a positive note the tennis pro wants us all to know she’s doing better.
“Thank you everyone for all of your prayers, concerns, and support,” the star, 29, tells PEOPLE in a statement. “This has been extremely hard, scary, and disappointing. I am doing better, I’m at home now and working with my doctors to keep everything under control.”
“I know I will be okay, but am praying and hoping this will all be behind me soon,” she said. “While I can’t make any promises now on my return [to tennis], I hope to be back by early summer. That said, my main goal is to make sure I get there safely.”
A Williams rep added, “Thankfully everything was caught in time. With continued doctor visits to monitor her situation, she is recuperating at home under strict medical supervision.”

Carmelo Anthony’s first game as a New York Knicks, wearing a #7 jersey Wednesday night, was indeed a triumphant one! The New York Knicks beat the Milwakee Bucks 114-108. Many wondered if Melo, Amar’e Stoudamire and newly recruited Chauncey Billups could deliver, and there’s no doubt they can.
In a televised press conference earlier in the day Anthony spoke about the trade from the Denver Nuggets and what he hopes for in the future of his basketball career.
He says, “You know this morning I came in early, got some shots in by myself. I still felt like I was just coming in for a shoot around, you know, opposing team…I didn’t…it ain’t really sink in yet that I’m a New York Knick.
