It’s just been announced that rapper Lil Mama will play the late Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes in R&B group TLC‘s upcoming biopic. The news was confirmed by one of Hip Hop’s female pioneers MC Lyte.
“I don’t know if I’m supposed to say, but I will,” says Lyte at a pre-Grammy party over the weekend. “She just got the role of Left Eye in TLC’s new movie…”
Prior to making the announcement Lyte revealed she would mentor the young rapper saying, “I’m going to put my concentration and focus on helping a sister who is talented, smart, witty who just had her chances cut too short and that is Lil Mama because she is a talented young woman. I want to see her do some beautiful things.”
She also talks about recording with Mama and working on a sisters record with other legendary female Hip Hop artists.
We’ve been told the new reality show from singer Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins, 1/3 of R&B group TLC, is coming but now we have a sneak peek of what we can truly expect. T-Boz heads in the studio with producer Bangladesh to work on a solo album three years overdue. Watch as she tries to convince him that she’s ready to make a return to music.
It looks like T-Boz will be following in TLC band mate Chilli‘s footsteps and will be getting her very own reality show. The show said to be titled “Totally T-Boz” is likely to make its debut some time next year, 2013.
TMZ reports, the show will be centered around the 42 year old’s life as a single mom living in Atlanta, the re-launch of her music career, her brain tumor diagnosis back in 2006 and perhaps her financial struggles. T-Boz filed for bankruptcy last year. It was her second time by the way. The first was with band mate’s Left Eye and Chilli back in 1995.
The show will also feature her daughter, brother, cousins and friends.
Will you be watching? We certainly will. Can’t wait!
It is no secret singer Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins has battled with sickle cell anemia for many, even chosing to hide her illness from fans for years before revealing she was ill in the early 2000s. Now she has partnered with Be The Match Registry….
“As a person with sickle cell disease and an advocate for everyone fighting this disease, I was naturally drawn to Be The Match,” Watkins said. “Unfortunately, myths about bone marrow donation keep many people from joining the Be The Match Registry and potentially saving a life. That is why I am passionate about encouraging everyone to learn the facts about bone marrow donation through these PSAs. We need more African Americans to step up.”
Today is T-Boz’s 41st birthday! The star born Tionne Watkins was born on April 26, 1970 in Des Moines, Iowa. Tionne became famous as 1/3 of girl group TLC with fellow band mates Rozanda “Chilli” Thomas and the deceased Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes.
Can’t deny T-Boz still looks good at 41! She can give some of these young girls and run for their money. I so miss TLC, love them!! Happy Birthday Tionne!
The star tweeted several hours ago, @BozBizz: “Love ya’ll & thanx 4 all the love ya’ll show me. I’m blessed to have another BDAY & proud to say I’m 41″
*sidenote*: Unfortunately yesterday was the nine year anniversary of Left Eye’s death caused by an automobile accident. Not a good memory when to celebrating your birthday huh? We wish Tionne a great big happy birthday despite this tragic memory!
Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins stopped by The Mo-nique Show last night and revealed how after TLC’s greatest album profiting at $75 million dollars, she and group members Left Eye and Chilli held Clive Davis hostage, guns and all, in his office after being given only 50k a piece. Hilarious! I love these girls.
