Over the weekend, many young adults flocked to theaters to see the latest sensation flick, ‘The Hunger Games’. I would be lying if I said I wasn’t among the millions of people who’ve not only seen the film but read the read; I’ve read all three actually. And, as expected the film scored one of the largest debuts in it’s opening weekend. So much so that it is now the third-biggest opening weekend of all time, beating out all of the “Twilight Saga” movies. It grossed $155 million domestically and earned another $60 million or so worldwide.
Great right?! Now here are my thoughts.
Yes, I agree, the film was great. I can honestly say, out of a 5 I’ll give it a solid 3. The visuals were superb. The attempt to bring the story to life [visually] as it was written deserves a thumbs up. My complaint, however, there were no real emotional connections. This is disturbing because the connections between the characters is the core of the story. It is what pulls at your heart strings.
Leading up to his ‘Fortune’ album release, set for May 8th Chris Brown has been giving fans a preview of what the album may or may not sound like. Although he’s already chosen the final tracks for his album, there were several songs that didn’t make the cut. A few weeks back he released “F*ck The City Up”, now he’s releasing the record featuring long time collaborator Tank. And, I love me some Tank! Check it out below.
Does stripping give Rihanna more confidence? Well, kind of. Not actually stripping of course. In a recent interview with British’s Women’s Fitness magazine, the singer reveals dressing sexier and more revealing on stage has certainly boost her confidence.
She says, “The more I got naked, the more comfortable I felt. I just had to face my fear. You always find something wrong, you always find something you’re uncomfortable with, and one thing turns into another and you get embarrassed and self-conscious about it.”
“After a while, it was like, ‘What’s the worst that can happen?’ and I just started being a little more daring with it. It was just knowing my body is the way it is no matter what that helped me, knowing that it is what it is under clothes or outside of clothes.’” She does, however, notes her approach in feeling more comfortable with herself might not be for everyone. “My way probably won’t work for most people,” added the 24 year old singer.
It seems our recent article, 5 Signs He’s A Mama’s Boy, hit the nerve of a few men who frequent this site, so we gave one reader a chance to challenge our ideas and tell it, as he sees fit, on why we may have gotten it wrong. Now ladies, I’ll be the first to admit that I do not agree with most of what he’s written here but it is only fair that we allow the message be told from a male’s point of view. And, perhaps, he may have a few valid arguments. Here’s his take on our perception on mama’s boys and why women should never call a man a boy.
First of all. A woman can’t tell a man what he is (just like a man can’t tell a woman what she is). ESPECIALLY A “BOY”. Why? Because a woman has NO experience living as a man or a boy. What IMO should have happened is, women might want to take note of what men do when we are clueless about a woman, we ask her friend (a woman) for advice.
Ladies (loosely used), please whenever making inferences that has to do with the male ego, consult another man. Why? because you’re wrong already :).
Btw, ladies, never call a man especially a BLACK MAN anything with the word BOY in it. Thanks.
1. Run Tell That. His mother will always know what’s going on. And not necessarily because he’s divulging information to her. What I’ve noticed is that women just don’t like women who SEEM to be a possible (no matter how minimal) threat to replacing the current queen bee in this man’s life. I’ve seen it happen so many times. Girlfriends, daughters, and mothers. At war! And who wins the war? The one with the most information! And mothers have already ahead. They have experience being mothers, daugthers, girlfriends and wives so they know all of the tricks and have unblocked access to your man. I mean this is only ONE possible scenario. But ladies…THIS IS THE MOST PLAUSIBLE ONE!
2. Domestically Handicapped. I’ll be the first to admit that a man should know how to fold and clean his own drawz, but if mom wants to do it, who are we to say no? Sometimes, that is the custom and the role of the woman of the house to make sure that a young man’s underoos are skid mark free. Perhaps you could learn something because in order to become the queen bee in his life, are you refusing to WASH YOUR MAN’S TIGHTY WHITIES? Smh… you’re already starting off on a negative. And I like the smell of Gain.
Bria Murphy and younger sister Shayne Murphy were spotted out and about headed to a Beverly Hills nail salon this past weekend. Although the ladies looked beautiful, it was Bria’s Ash Bowie Wedge Trainers that caught the eye of some of our readers. She also wore skinny blue jeans, and a cropped grey sweatshirt.
I must admit they’re really cute. Now here’s where you can get them and how much you may have to shell out
The link attached pointed her followers to the below photo and official website where she notes , “Baby Makes 6! Dean, Liam, Stella, Hattie, and I are beyond thrilled to announce that another little McDermott is on the way! We feel truly blessed that another angel has found us. Love, Tori xoxo”
Justin Bieber has just released a new single, “Boyfriend”, a bit different from pop ballads he usually sings. He even raps a bit as he professes to his lady love the kind of boyfriend he’d be if she gave him a chance. I’m getting a Justin Timberlake kind of vibe here and it’s quite catchy actually. Check it out.
Neon Colors – Bright and colorful neon colored sandals are the rave right now. However, if you opt to wear an eye popping attention grabbing shoe, please opt for a more subdued color when choosing your outfit for the day. The shoe, alone, will be speaking volumes the rest of your attire don’t have to either.
Print Wedges – Last Spring floral print clothing were all the rave. This year the shoes are taking over. If this is a trend you’ll happily indulge in, make sure to choose just one color to base your attire around. There’s no need to over emphasize with the color schemes and floral prints here.
Metallics – Metallic shoes are in! Metallics can be fun because you can wear them with almost anything. Unless, of course, they aren’t a neutral color like the blue in our template above. Dress them up, dress them down, the options are limitless. But with most things, do not over do it!
Studded Booties – Not sure how I feel about this trend but do us and yourself a favor, if your shoes are studded, the rest of your outfit don’t have to be either.
Life is not beating you down like some hopeless dingy in a tropical storm. Now is the time to really own your success and do something about it. This is not about pipe dreams to be a rapper at the age of 62. We are talking about true passions and the success you’ve always sought. If you are wondering why you can’t seem to get ahead, you just might be in your own way.
This is arguably the most important factor between you and your success. How often do you push things off until tomorrow? Have you caught yourself saying what you WILL do and are GOING to do more often than actually getting started. When I first decided I was going to be a writer, I kept pushing articles off until Saturdays. Then Saturday would come and go and I’d have a truck load of excuses why I should do it Sunday instead. The longer you procrastinate on your dreams, the longer it will take to get there. You can’t accomplish what you never start.
A year from now you may wish you had started today. ~Karen Lamb
Short Cuts instead of Hard Work
Short cuts only work when you are trying to get to the airport on time. It’s possible that you aren’t experiencing success because you are busy trying to find a faster way to get there. There’s nothing wrong with being creative, but when you are trying to bypass hard work with ‘get rich quick’ schemes you are focusing your energy in the wrong direction. There are no shortcuts to any place worth going. – Beverly Sills
Fellow blogger Trent over at The Lava Lizard recently started a Youtube channel where he expresses his feelings about some of music’s hottest stars; saying some of the things we all may want to say, from one time or another. However, he’s says them so eloquently and funny in that trini accent we’ve become accustomed to!
Here’s his latest video addressed to Beyonce stans. I’ve been saying these people are crazy for a long time but let Trent tell it the way it should be told.
We honor vintage Lil’ Kim today in the wake of her comeback, on the horizon, and to show fans and foes just why Kim was once the hottest female emcee in the game. No doubt when “No Time” made it’s debut, Kim was at the beginning of her rise and the success of the song suddenly made her one of the hottest commodities in Hip Hop.
It was 1996 when the single made it’s debut as well as Kim’s debut single off her first album, ‘Hardcore.’ It went on to peak at number 18 on the Billboard Hot 100 and reached the Top 10 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. It also topped the US Rap Songs becoming Kim’s first number 1 hit on that chart. Here’s “No Time”.
You know this is a throwback because it was back when Diddy was still going as Puff Daddy before Puffy, before P. Diddy. Can’t believe it’s been nearly sixteen years!
