After a sneak peak yesterday, Beyonce has just released the sixth video off her fourth album, ’4′. Without further adue here’s “Party”.
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard the plight many successful women face while trying to conquer the world. But in a recent article, Forbes Women are tackling the sensitive topic once more. This time, they’ve named the top 10 worst stereotypes these women are plagued with each day. I found this interesting, perhaps, you will too.
No. 1: Ice Queen
Halley Bock, CEO of leadership and development training company Fierce, notes that the ruthless “ice queen” stereotype is rampant. Cultural depictions, like frigid magazine editor Miranda Priestly in The Devil Wears Prada (and her real-world counterpart Anna Wintour of Vogue) and back-stabbing boss Patty Hewes on Damages, paint successful women as unsympathetic power-mongers. It is, of course, a Catch-22. “A woman who shows emotion in the workplace is often cast as too fragile or unstable to lead,” Bock said. “A woman who shows no emotion and keeps it hyper-professional is icy and unfeminine. For many women, it can be a no-win situation.”
No. 2: Single and Lonely
Harvard lecturer Olivia Fox Cabane notes that the strong perception that powerful women are intimidating to men and will need to sacrifice their personal lives may stop women from going after power. Even those women who aren’t interested in marrying, face harsh judgments. Men get to be “bachelors” while women are reduced to “spinsters” and “old-maids.” In fact, when Janet Napolitano was nominated Secretary of Homeland Security, critics said her being single would allow her to “spend more time on the job.”
No. 3: Tough
The first female Executive Editor of The New York Times, Jill Abramson is anything but stereotypical. She had a hard-charging career as an investigative reporter at The Wall Street Journal and edited her way to the top of the Times masthead. She’s also a true-blood New Yorker and is writing a book about puppies. Despite her complexities, she must contend with being called “tough” and “brusque,” making the “she’s-tough stereotype” her least favorite. Said Abramson: “As an investigative reporter, I had tough standards and a formidable way of framing and reporting stories, but I don’t think of myself as a tough person.”
It took 3 months, but Amy Winehouse‘s offiicial cause of death has finally been revealed.
The singer apparently died from “alcohol toxicity”. Winehouse, a self declared alcoholic, consumed fives times the legal limit according to the coroner’s office. They declared her death a “death by misadventure”.
Winehouse was an “intelligent, determined young woman who, at times, was able to successful abstain from alcohol,” the coroner added while making the announcement.
Amy’s parents Mitch and Janis were present for the reading in a London court today. They issued this statement soon after the news of Amy’s death was announced.
“It is some relief to finally find out what happened to Amy. We understand there was alcohol in her system when she passed away; it is likely a build up of alcohol in her system over a number of days. The court heard that Amy was battling hard to conquer her problems with alcohol and it is a source of great pain to us that she could not win in time.”
How unfortunate. R.I.P Amy.
Tennis champ, Serena Williams was spotted at the Tuesday night premiere of the new Eddie Murphy and Ben Stiller flick, ‘Tower Heist’. But what was most interesting, her attire.
Serena, nor her sister Venus, are known for their fashion sense but this time around she may have gotten it right!
Is it me or is this the best her hair has ever been? Love it! And those abs! Is so hate her. Lol
What are your thoughts?
It seems there was some truth to the Jennifer Hudson postponing her wedding to fiance David Otunga. But now, there are reports the couple, of 3 years, have called off the engagement all together.
Hudson’s drastic weight loss and grueling work schedule are believed to have contributed to the demise of the relationship while David’s refusal to sign a pre-nup sent ‘Dream Girl’ packing.
Beyonce may have had Kanye West and Andre 3000 featured on the original “Party” record, but for the remix and the official video newcomer J. Cole was who she opted for. If you watch carefully Kelly Rowland and Solange make a cameo. Here’s a sneak peek.
Well, this isn’t surprising. The “Barbz” have spoken!
The Daily News reports, Nicki Minaj costumes have garnered the most Google searches for Halloween costume ideas this year.
The “Super Bass” rapper, who is known for her colorful wigs and wacky over-the-top outfits, is near the top of the list of most-searched Halloween costumes on Google. Only “Playboy Bunny,” “Black Swan” and “Angry Birds” were searched more than the in-your-face rapper.
Truth is, there actually aren’t many actual Nicki Minaj costumes. But many websites and online video tutorials have been popping up to give ideas on how to transform your every day look in to the animated rapper.
In honor of her 31st birthday yesterday, Monica released her official video for single “Until It’s Gone” on BET’s ’106 & Park’. Check it out.
* Just a tid bit*: Monica is believed to be pregnant with her and husband, Shannon Brown’s, first child. In recent photos the singer is typically covered up, especially in her mid section but have yet to confirm the rumors.
She has two sons with Atlanta rapper Rocko and Shannon has a son of his own from a previous relationship. We’ll keep you all posted.
So Matt Barnes and Gloria Govan are over. Well, that’s according to an official statement released by the NBA player just hours ago.
“I’d like to address the rumors surrounding mine and Gloria’s relationship. We have reached the difficult decision of ending our relationship and will be going our separate ways at this time. We will work together to raise our sons and wish each other only the best.”
The ‘Basketball Wives LA’ reality TV star followed up with a twitter message of her own stating,
I’m sure you guys are hearing a ton of buzz about Matt and Me breaking up, sorry to say… its true!!! But the most important thing is focusing on my kids and continuing to have a good relationship with their father, thanks for your support!!!
Perhaps, there were signs of trouble in the relationship, the couple once referred to as “perfect”, when their nuptials were called off indefinitely last year. A police report even suggested the couple were involved in a heated domestic dispute which resulted in Matt’s arrest. No charges were filed.
Didn’t know Boys II Men were working on an album. And get this, their 10th studio album, ‘Twenty’, hits stores tomorrow, October 25th! What? Either I’ve been under a rock or there was not much promotion for this project.
Along with the 13 track album set for tomorrow’s release, the band will also release 8 tracks of re-releases of some of their greatest hits.
It’s always great to see one of the original and talented boy bands get back together bringing us music we love to listen to.
