Virginia Tech University, the site of the country’s worst massacre, is on lockdown after two people, including a police officer, were shot and killed on the campus.
The school said the suspect is at large and students are being told, “Stay indoors. Secure in place.”
An alert on the Virginia Tech school’s website said: “There is an active campus alert in Blacksburg. Everyone should seek shelter or stay where you are. Blacksburg Transit service is suspended until the alert is lifted.”
Virginia Tech spokesman Mark Owczarski said a campus police officer stopped a vehicle shortly after noon today in the school’s Coliseum parking lot, near McComas Hall.
“During the traffic stop. the officer was shot and killed. There were witnesses to this shooting,” Owczarski said in the statement.
“Witnesses reported to police the shooter fled on foot heading toward the Cage, a parking lot near Duck Pond Drive. At that parking lot, a second person was found. That person is also deceased,” he said.
The morning-after pill known as Plan B is steeped in controversy again. The Department of Health and Human Services has taken the rare step of overruling the Food and Drug Administration and its science advisors and will not allow the pill to be sold over the counter in drugstores unless a woman can prove she is older than 17.
The stunning override of the FDA is bad public policy. This is a case of politics triumphing over science yet again when it comes to matters of reproduction, contraception and abortion in the U.S.
This story has certainly been the highlight of my morning!
Over the weekend, A mugger, Anthony Miranda, attempted to rob a man in one on Chicago’s Southwest side neighborhoods and ended up getting the beating of his life.
The man he attempted to rob was actually an ultimate fighter and martial arts expert.
The Chicago Sun-Times reports that Anthony Miranda approached a parked vehicle near 55th Street and Kenneth Avenue Friday night and asked the driver for a lighter before pointing a handgun at the man and demanding money. After the driver handed over some cash, Miranda reportedly ordered him out of the car — which was apparently a mistake.
Chicago Police Officer John Mirabelli told the Sun-Times what happened next:
Oh My! Atlanta Sheriff deputies refused to evict a 103-year-old woman and her 83-year-old daughter moments before they were to leave their home this past Tuesday, November 29th, 2011. The moving company hired by the bank also decided not assist in moving the two women out.
The two women have shared the home for 53 years! Just three weeks shy of her 104th birthday, Vita Lee says, “I love it. It’s a mansion.”
Channel 2′s Ryan Young was present at the home to capture the family’s excitement.
It’s nice to see some people still have hearts. The economy has been rough on millions of Americans across the country. It would have been a sad day if these two women were evicted. But I wonder how they bank took the news?!
What in the world is this?! News broke recently that Reggae artist Vybz Kartel, real name Adidja Palmer, has escaped the Horizon Adult Remand Centre along with 7 other inmates. According to the Hype Life Magazine, one guard, found dead, is said to have died from a heart attack while 12 others were wounded. Another two guards were shot with guns believed to have been smuggled into the prison. Kartel is suspected of holding at least one prison guard at gun point before escaping.
The star had been in custody since October after being charged with murder, conspiracy to commit murder and illegal possession of a firearm following the deaths of Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams in August and Gregory Park in July.
To aid escapees, some prisoners had taken the officers’ clothing and car keys while one group apparently impersonated prison guards on the phone to ward off suspicion. After gaining control of the jail, the prisoners managed to escape from the prison ground using a maintenance pick-up truck at around 1.45am, local time.
One of the 7 prisoners were captured by the police while the others are still on the loose.
Kartel and the other escapees are currently listed as ‘Jamaica’s most wanted criminals’.
SMH! This is what happens when you are a corrupted individual who gains fame, has millions of fans and believe you are invincible! If he’s even found alive he’ll certainly be spending the rest of his life in prison. I’ll keep you posted.
The verdict is in! Dr. Conrad Murray was found guilty in the involuntary manslaughter charge in the Michael Jackson death trial.
Since Jackson’s passing over two years ago, fans and foes have blamed the doctor for his unlawfully ministering propofol, a type of anesthesia used in the medical profession that ultimately caused Jackson his life. The drug was intended to make Jackson sleep because he suffered from insomnia.
Following the verdict, Jackson’s family all expressed that they felt justice was served.
What are your thoughts? Is Dr. Murray responsible for Jackson’s death?

CNN reports, a 7.2 earthquake rocked eastern Turkey at approximately 1:41pm Sunday. It is the most powerful earthquake to hit the region since the 1999′s 7.6 quake that claimed approximately 17,000 lives.
At least seven aftershocks have been reported and citizens are now rummaging through rubble, from collapsed buildings, using flashlights and shovels for any signs of life. At the moment, it is too early to estimate how many lives have been lost.
Rescue missions are currently underway for any survivors who fell victim to the 25 buildings said to have collapse during the quake.
