2 Pac Resurrected At Coachella?

Yeah, yeah I know what you’re thinking. 2 Pac‘s been dead for nearly 15 years but someone thought it would be nice to resurrect him apparently. Snoop Dogg put together an incredible performance when he presented the crowd with a life size hologram of the late rapper. “Pac” joined Snoop on stage to perform “Hail Mary”. The hologram looked so real and believable the crowd went wild!

Snoop was also joined by Dr. Dre who he hadn’t performed with on stage for more 20 years. The pair were also joined by Wiz Khalifa, Eminem and 50 Cent to complete the set. And in true Snoop fashion, he couldn’t go without smoking a blunt as was his prodigy Wiz. Check it out.

A moment surely to be remembered for years to come.

The 53rd Grammy Awards Performances

For all who watched, there’s no secret, the Grammy Award ceremony was a bit of a snooze fest this year. Nonetheless, here are some note worthy performances.

Yolonda Adams
, Jennifer Hudson, Christina Aguilera, Florence Welch, and Martina McBride opened the show with a tribute to the Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin.

Clearly this was also an effort for Christina to redeem herself after her National Anthem flub during the Super Bowl.

Lady Gaga (Madonna’s spawn) performed new single ‘Born This Way’.

Not a surprise, they recruited Ricky Martin who not long ago announced he was indeed a homosexual man to introduce Lady Gaga and Elton John. Fitting for the occasion I suppose.

Probably the best performance of the night, Bruno Mars, B.O.B and Janelle Monae performing a medley of their songs ‘Nothing on You’, ‘Grenade’ and ‘Cold World’. Paying tribute to the old school while giving a little something new.

Willow Smith is not the only Smith spawn pursuing a music career I see. The Smith clan is surely taking over. And of course Usher performed hit ‘OMG’.

Cee-Lo Green Feat. Gwyneth Paltrow “Forget You”

probably the most colorful performance of the night.

The Numbers Are In: First Week Sales

Jamie Foxx, Keyshia Cole, and Keri Hilson were among the list of artists to release albums on Dec. 21st, and last week seemed a merriful week for album sales.

Jamie Foxx’s third album ‘Best Night of My Life’ debuted at No. 6 selling 144,000 copies in its first week. Although the album fell short of producing numbers much like his previous albums, let’s not forget selling in the hundred thousands for your first week sales is still impressive considering the decline in album sales these past few years. The Oscar winner’s previous effort, 2008’s Intuition, entered at No. 3 with 265,000, while his J Records debut Unpredictable came in at No. 2 with 598,000 in 2005.

R&B’s crowned ‘princess of soul’ Keyshia Cole’s fourth album ‘Calling All Hearts’ debuted No. 9 selling 128,000. The album falls short of 2008′s ‘A Different Me’ selling 322,000 in its first week and debuting at No. 2. Again, still impressive.

Good news for Keri Hilson’s sophomore album ‘No Boys Allowed’. Although the album failed to round out the top 10 spot coming in at No. 11, it sold 102,000 copies, an increase from her debut album ‘In A Perfect World’ which sold 94,000 units.

Still holding on to the No. 1 spot for 6 weeks straight, Taylor Swift’s Speak Now closes out the year at No. 1 with 276,000, followed singer Susan Boyle also maintaining her No. 2 spot with The Gift selling (240,000).
Other artists still seeing some impressive numbers with recent releases, Michael Jackson’s Michael No. 5 (150,000), Eminem’s Recovery comes in No. 7 (137,000), Nicki Minaj’s Pink Friday,  No. 8  (133,000). Rihanna’s Loud rounds out the top 10 with 111,000.

Eminem Reveals “I Do Not Curse At Home”

In a recent interview with Anderson Cooper on 60 minutes, rapper Eminem reveals, although he’s known for his explicit and vulgar lyrics, he does not curse when he’s home.
The rapper also takes the reporter to his Detroit home town and reminisced about life before becoming a celebrity.

“Profanity around my house? No,” he tells Anderson Cooper in a 60 Minutes interview, which aired Sunday. “I’m not saying there’s not glimpses of me in the music, [that] there’s not truth in … things that I say. But this is music, this is my art.”

When he’s at home, the 38-year-old father-of-four (real name: Marshall Mathers) says: “I’m a parent. I have daughters. I mean, how would I really sound, as a person … walking around my house [saying], ‘B—-, pick this up,’ you know what I mean? … I don’t cuss.”

Asked if he feels a sense of responsibility when his young fans use the cuss words he spews his songs, the

rapper says, “I feel like it’s your job to parent them. If you’re the parent, be a parent.”

He also takes Cooper through the rapping process he uses to rhyme words.

His biggest beef?

“People say that the word orange doesn’t rhyme with anything and that kind of p—– me off,” he says. “I can think of a lot of things that rhyme with orange.”

Eminem Feat. Rihanna "Love The Way You Lie" & Tank "Sex Music"

The Uber talented white rapper Eminem premiered the video for single “Love the Way You Lie” with singer Rihanna yesterday afternoon.  Although some of Em’s singles/videos can be a bit dark this one in particular touched on a very sensitive topic, one the Rihanna can also relate to.  It touches on volatile relationships where domestic violence is an issue.

The video features actor Dominic Monaghan of ‘Lost’ and actress Megan Fox. Via MTV Dominic had this to say,

“I think we tried as hard as we could to not glorify the violence, to try and explain that this was a relationship that is by no means ideal and a relationship that probably should have ended a lot sooner than it did,” Monaghan told MTV News. “The concept of ‘Love the Way You Lie’ was essentially a look at the relationship that Eminem was in with his wife, Kim, so I kind of felt like I was playing Eminem a little bit, and Megan Fox was kind of playing Kim,”

“It’s the story of them getting to know each other, and it’s the story of their tumultuous relationship, and it was the story of the breakdown of their relationship,” Monaghan added. “Ultimately, what I think he’s trying to say in the song … is that he should have walked away a little bit quicker than he did and not let it get as messy as it did.” Trying to get into Eminem’s mind-set in scenes such as the one in which he confronts a man who is talking to Fox’s character, Monaghan said he led with anger. “All his motivation, every forward step that he takes is based on his anger,” he said of the character. “We’re supposed to be desperately in love, like Bonnie and Clyde style, like Sid and Nancy, John and Yoko … Eminem and Kim.”

“There’s nothing sexy or cool or fun about being in a violent relationship,” he said. “Whether it’s her being violent to you or you being violent to her … violence both ways or any kind of destructive relationship is something you should probably get out of.” One of the messages of the video is that Eminem probably should have bailed on his relationship earlier than he did, Monaghan said, and the challenge of the clip was taking a serous subject and making it into a good video that helps sell the song. “A good video can still have a message of caution in it,” he said.

Rihanna, who was violently attacked by then boyfriend Chris Brown over a year and a half ago, also had this to say about shooting the video with Em.

“It’s something that, you know, [Eminem and I have] both experienced, you know, on different sides, different ends of the table,” she said. “It just was authentic. It was real. It was believable for us to do a record like that, but it was also something that needed to be done, and the way he did it was so clever. He pretty much just broke down the cycle of domestic violence, and it’s something that a lot of people don’t have a lot of insight on, so this song is a really, really powerful song, and it touches a lot of people.”

Well said.

On another note, I think Tank is one of the most underrated singers/songwriters out there. I’m certainly feeling this single “Sex Music”. The video doesn’t do the song much justice but I appreciate the fact that the video isn’t overtly sexy yet sensual. Love it. The album,  Now or Never’ drops September 21st.

Eminem Back @ Number 1!
