One half of 90’s rap duo, Kris Kross, Chris Kelly passed away Wednesday night at an Atlanta hospital.
Although his death is currently being investigated, it’s believed he died from an apparent drug overdose.
“It appears it may have been a possible drug overdose,” said Cpl. Kay Lester, a spokeswoman for the Fulton County police.
According to Lester, police were called to Kelly’s home at around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. He was transported to the south campus of the Atlanta Medical Center.
He was later pronounced dead at approximately 5pm.
No official cause of death has been announced, however. An announcement will likely be made following an autopsy.
In an official statement Kelly’s family states, “To millions of fans worldwide, he was the trendsetting, backwards pants-wearing one-half of Kris Kross who loved making music. But to us, he was just Chris — the kind, generous and fun-loving life of the party.”
Kelly was also known as “Mac Daddy” alongside partner Chris “Daddy Mac” Smith in the successful 90’s group Kris Kross. The duo were discovered by music producer and rapper Jermaine Dupri in an Atlanta mall. They were best known for wearing their clothes backwards as part of their image.
May he rest in peace.
