Tyrese Clarifies “Fat & Nasty” Comments Regarding Overweight People

Tyrese would like to clear up some recent comments he made about “fat” and “nasty” people. Yesterday we reported on some of the not so nice comments Ty made regarding overweight people and living a healthier lifestyle.

Among other things, here’s a bit of what he said. “If you are fat and nasty and you don’t like the way you look, do something about it. It’s simple. When you take a shower and you put your fat, nasty body in the shower and by the time you get out, the mirrors are all steamed up so you don’t look at what you did to yourself.”

Ouch!

Tyrese is now clarifying what he meant by those statements but he’s not exactly apologizing. During a Twitter rant he wrote,

“I’m not apologizing for what I said I’m apologizing for the bad choice of wording and execution of my point around obesity …Y’all seen my documentary I was brought in this world from a plus size mother and my sisters are plus size as well.. I am concerned always!”, he continued.

“We always associate addictions to cocaine, Heroine, and or alcoholic abuse… Food is the #1 addiction in American #TruthTweet. This is what happens when you decide to not just be an artist or an actor but use your heart… It creates controversy and unwanted energy. I’m done with the topic… I’m sure my last round of tweets won’t be posted cause the goal is to get hits and traffic on your sites. All we can do is work hard at being the best version of ourselves as we can..”

We’re not so sure Tyrese’s “clarification” is all that better either. He probably should have started off with an actual apology to those he offended. Beginning an “apology” with ‘I’m not apologizing” was probably not the way to go. Fact is, he’s concerned, we get that. He’s trying to inspire change and bring awareness to obesity, we get that too. But being blatantly disrespectful and not owning the disrespect won’t get people to ride your wave Mr. Gibson.

Perhaps he should have kept his mouth shut and gotten his publicist to do the talking for him.

Do you agree or disagree with Tyrese’s statements?
