Nicki Minaj was scheduled to headline this year’s annual Hot 97 Summer jam, Sunday night, when suddenly she decided she would not perform at the last minute.
The rapper tweeted, “Wow. U niggaz just f*cked up history. But the President has spoken. #YMCMB.”
She then wrote, “Ebro call Wayne. Da kid gon b @ da telly…”
Apparently Hot 97’s radio personality Peter Rosenberg dissed the rapper earlier during the show spewing his disdain for her music (her single “Starships”) as an attempt to “save” Hip Hop.
What encouraged Nicki’s decision to pull the plug? Her label president and rapper Lil’ Wayne. Wayne also tweeted his own message, “Young Money ain’t doing summer jam.”, at the same time another Young Money artist, Tyga, head to the stage to perform.
After her decision to cancel her performance, Nicki again tweeted “I go above and beyond for my fans. But won’t ever go against wayne’s word. What he says, goes.”
She later followed up with, “I’d like to thank the staff @ philly & boston summer jams for treating their guests w/respect! Had a blast.”
Ironically Nicki was quite excited just hours before as she prepared to hit the stage. She tweeted, “History will be made @ Hot97 Summer Jam tonight. I really hope you’re there to witness it.”
There were even rumors she would bring two other Lil’ Kim rivals Foxy Brown and Azelia Banks. Guess we’ll never know.
What are your thoughts? Should Nicki have ignored Wayne’s wishes and continued with her performance?
*Update*: Nicki Minaj just tweeted the line up she had in store and believe me this was certainly going to be good!
She tweeted “Camron,2chainz,Nas,LaurynHill,BeenieMan,FoxyBrown,LilWayne,Birdman,Tyga,JaeMillz,GuddaGudda”
Wow! What a shame for the fans who lost out.
