Former American Idol winner Ruben Studdard, 33, is the latest celebrity to announce he’s getting a divorce, from wife of 3 years, Zuri McCants. Unfortunately Studdard and McCants fairytale romance did not end happily ever after.

The two began a courtship after meeting during an album signing in an Atlanta Wal-Mart back in 2006. The couple dated for two years before marrying in a private ceremony in Birmingham, Alabama, Studdard’s home town. The divorce papers filed by Studdard notes ‘irreconcilable differences’ as the reason for the separation.

A statement issued through his lawyer, Byron Perkins, states, “Ruben Studdard and Zuri McCants Studdard have separated, and they are in the process of seeking a dissolution of their marriage.They each request the public respects their privacy during this trying time in their lives.”

Although garnering some immediate success after his 2003 win on ‘American Idol’, the former contestant has since faced a declining music career and financial troubles. Thankfully because the two do not have any children together the divorce should go through smoothly.
