Three brothers have been awarded $17 million in a settlement against New York City for their conviction of a 1980s crime they did not commit.
The New York City comptroller, Scott M. Stringer, has agreed to pay $17 million to settle three more claims based on wrongful criminal convictions, his office said on Sunday, part of an emerging strategy to resolve civil rights cases before they are formally filed as lawsuits in court.
In some unfortunate, but so not surprising, news, former Ferguson County police officer Darren Wilson will not face any federal charges for the shooting and death of unarmed St. Louis, MO teen Michael Brown.
Justice Department lawyers will recommend that no civil rights charges be brought against the police officer who fatally shot an unarmed teenager in Ferguson, Mo., after an F.B.I. investigation found no evidence to support charges, law enforcement officials said Wednesday.
Even after the death of Staten Island resident, Eric Garner, at the hand of a New York City police officer, reports find the NYPD are alarmed at the choke hold ban.
In a report issued by the city’s first Inspector General Philip Eure, last week, Eure was shocked to learned of the continued use of the controversial tactic despite it being prohibited.
What was more shocking was that the cops received little to no discipline from higher-ups. In fact, in four out of ten cases, cops used chokeholds as a “first act” against citizens who only confronted them verbally.
“While the substantiated use of prohibited chokeholds by members of the NYPD in any context is troubling, the fact that several of the subject officers in the 10 cases reviewed by OIG-NYPD used chokeholds as a first act of physical force and in response to mere verbal confrontation is particularly alarming,” the report stated.
Lifetime has much to celebrate at the moment. The network’s Angela Bassett directed biopic of the late Whitney Houston drew in 4.5 million viewers over the weekend.
The film, starring Yaya DaCosta as Houston and Arlen Escarpeta as the singer’s famous ex-husband Bobby Brown, documented the couple’s love story and struggles with substance abuse, specifically between the years 1989 and 1993.
From the rating, it’s clear the film was well received by fans and viewers. Unfortunately the same can’t be said of the Houston family.
Amidst speculation that Bill Cosby sexually assaulted and drugged over two dozen women, new evidence suggest that one the comedian and actor’s accusers was lying.
In a recent statement, issued by Cosby’s attorney, Chloe Goins lied about her accusations and there’s even proof to discredit Ms. Goins’ statements.
As per Tattle Tailzz…
On Wednesday, Chloe Goins and her attorney publicly accused Bill Cosby of assaulting Ms. Goins in 2008 at the “Midsummer Night’s Party” held at the Playboy Mansion in California. The party took place on August 9, 2008. Mr. Cosby was in New York on that date. We will be providing documentary evidence to the appropriate authorities which conclusively establishes Mr. Cosby’s whereabouts on August 9th and for the preceding and succeeding days.
Although Lil’ Wayne‘s the Carter V has been delayed amidst tension between himself and his label, the rapper has, however, just released a new mixtape titled, “Sorry 4 the Wait 2.”
Featured on the mixtape is the rapper’s rumored new girlfriend, singer and actress turn reality star, Christina Milian.
While Milian, now signed to Wayne’s Cash Money Records, is currently working on her own forthcoming album release, it comes as no surprise that she’s worked with the rapper on a few collaborations already. Their latest? A “Drunk In Love” remix.
But just how did they do? Let’s just say the Beyhive isn’t too thrilled about it and has even critiqued the singer on social media.
Listen to the single below and share your thoughts.
August Alsina‘s heart was in the right place when he performed during an anti-violent concert to honor the late Michael Brown, the unarmed Ferguson, MI teen gunned down by officer Darren Wilson last summer.
Unfortunately, the singer was unable to take his own advise in remaining non-violent.
As per TMZ…
R&B star August Alsina has never heard of the phrase “Don’t kick a man while he’s down” … because that’s exactly what he tried to do during a brawl after a show to promote non-violence. Whoops.
The show was called State Of Emergency 2 and it went down Saturday night at Chaifetz Arena in St. Louis. Proceeds from the show went to the Put Down the Pistol program.
According to our sources, Alsina got into it backstage with the show’s promoter, Loose Cannon Slim, after Slim got upset at Alsina for showing up late. Words were exchanged and it seemed as if it would stop there … until the punches started flying.

This story is beyond tragic. We are sad to report that two toddlers are dead after mom leaves them home alone to get her nails done.
A Louisiana mother, Ciarra Johnson has been charged with two-counts of negligent homicide after leaving her two children, Tashae Thompson Johnson, 4, and Clifton Thompson Johnson, 3, alone in their two-bedroom home that went up into flames.
At the time of the children’s death, Johnson had been getting her hair and nails done at a local beauty parlor.
Johnson, however claims that she made arrangements for a neighbor to watch the children.
But according to the State Fire Marshal Deputy Chief Brant Thompson there is no evidence to corroborate Johnson’s story.
“Our investigation determined that she made no such arrangements,” Thompson told USA TODAY. “That’s what is so disturbing to us. There were family members around she could have called, but she just didn’t bother.”
Another day, another dollar, and, another rumor. This time, it’s pop star Rihanna and actor Leonardo DiCaprio who are the culprits. Rumor has it, the two are now dating.
We know what you’re thinking. The pairing of the two seems pretty odd right?
The rumors began following reports that the two were spotted kissing at a party at the Playboy Mansion last week.
Their break up is getting messy folks. Jason Derulo and Jordin Sparks were once making sweet music together, both on and off stage. That was until their split last September after dating for three years.
Although much of the rumors and speculation surrounding their break up has seized, Sparks sparked a bit of drama, on Thursday, when she visited New York City’s radio station, Power 105.1 The Breakfast Club.
While discussing her split with Derulo, the singer was asked about a car she received as a gift. She mentioned that the car was actually leased and not bought.
